COMMITTEE MEETING

SUNDAY 8 NOVEMBER 2009

Meeting commenced: 1:40 pm.

 

MEMBERSHIP. As at today there are 147 financial members for 2009/2010.

FINANCIAL REPORT.  Balance as at 8 November 2009 was $5,314.38
Recent expenditure - postage $2.75, garbage bags $1.99, phone book entry $67.25, and phone calls $49.96. Income $42 for hook books etc.

AU PAIR. Graham Bell has volunteered to take on the AU PAIR duties.

ROTATING BOARDS. Thailand advised cost about $50 each. Cost to freight would be around $60 to $100. Payable by bank transfer costing around $40. Probably want to order about 30 rotating boards and will proceed on this basis.

ZYZZYVA. The table layout configured to accommodate access to ZYZZYVA.

OTHER BUSINESS

FACEBOOK. Chris Hall has agreed to start up a WA league on FACEBOOK.

Westcoast Community Centre. Glenys presented a 2-hour session on 5 November.

Tournaments – starting on time. Jane Dalton submitted a proposal that tournaments start on time and that latecomers clocks be started. Chris Hall proposed that if players have not checked in 15 minutes before the start time their names be deleted from the draw. This was agreed. Exceptions will be made for players who ring the emergency number to advise they have been held up (e.g. traffic) but will definitely be attending.

Second hand laptops. Jenny has access to some 2nd hand laptops and Mike will organise purchase from Jenny on behalf of ASPA WA.

ASPA (WA) ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Sunday 28 June 2009

 

Held at the South Perth Senior Citizens Centre, 53 Coode St, South Perth

The meeting was opened by Glenys Lawrie, President at 12.20 pm

 

Present: 35 ASPA WA members

The minutes of the 2008 AGM were read to the meeting. Confirmation & acceptance of the minutes of the 2008 AGM moved C Hall seconded F Lefebvre.

Business arising from the 2008 AGM minutes is covered by the agenda.

 

Presidents Report – was tabled. Acceptance moved M Clarke seconded C McCormick

 

The Financial Report was tabled and copies distributed. Balance as at 27 June 2009 was $6,143.51. ASPA (WA) profit for the financial year was $722.03.
Acceptance moved J Jones seconded F Lefebvre.                                                                                 

Affiliation Fees ($3 per club member) are due 30 Sept each year. Melville and Manjimup Clubs have paid affiliation fees for 2009/2010.

Membership/Fees – there were 156 financial members as at 28 June 2009. Financial members for 2009/2010 as at today = 97. Annual fees remain at $15 pa.

 Tournaments. We now use only protiles & rotating boards at all tournaments. The AFL fixtures are taken into account (Eagles & Dockers games in Perth on Sundays) when setting the tournament calendar. The rent for the South Perth Senior Citizens Centre (currently $150 per day) is expected to go up in the near future. Jenny Coetzee offered to check the suitability of a (possibly) free venue available in the Shire of Cockburn. There will be a Fun Day on 3 January 2010.

Members were asked to consider taking on some of the tasks involved in running tournaments such as storage and transport of tournament equipment, making nametags, mail out of circulars & tournament reports.

 

The CASPA AGM was held on 10 April 2009. The Office Bearers elected were:

National Coordinator - Glenys Lawrie.
Treasurer - Carol Hudson retired and Mike Clarke is the new CASPA Treasurer.
Rules Committee Coordinator - Mike Clarke retired and Chris May (NSW) took on this position.
Ratings Advisory Committee Convenor – Barry Harridge (VIC) retired and Edward Okulicz (NSW) is the new Convenor.
National Ratings Officer – Alistair Kane (VIC) retired and Barry Harridge took on this job.
Editor ATB- Katie Rowe (VIC)
National Website Coordinator – Martin Waterworth (QLD).

WESPA (World English-language Scrabble Players Association). Karen Richards (NSW) and Andrew Fisher (VIC) are Australia’s representatives on the WESPA Committee. Karen is the World Youth Coordinator, Andrew is the WESPA Treasurer. Barry Harridge (VIC) is on the Dictionary sub committee, Bob Jackman (NSW) is on the Tournament and Ratings sub committees, and Chris May (NSW) is on the Rules sub committee.

Australian Masters/ State Challenge Trophy 2009 will be held in Sydney in Sept. Edie Mueller, Glenys Lawrie, Sally, Martin and Chris Hall are likely to make up the ASPA WA team. The first reserve is Judy Jones, second reserve is Dianne Ward.

Australian Scrabble Championship Easter 2010 will be held in Adelaide (Glenelg).

 

Election of Office Bearers

Glenys thanked the 2008/2009 committee, office bearers and volunteers for their contribution and support during the past twelve months.

Written nominations were received and tabled for the following office bearer positions and committee membership and were elected unopposed.

There were no nominations for the IT Coordinator and Promotions Coordinator jobs.

Nominations for further committee members were called for at the meeting and Judy Jones nominated by Maureen Gill seconded Edie Mueller, and

Maureen Gill nominated by Judy Jones seconded Cori Lodder, were elected unopposed to the Committee.

 

General Business

 

Fifi Lefebvre thanked Maureen Gill for her fund raising efforts and Glenys Lawrie and committee members for their work during the past year.

Maureen Gill advised the meeting that tournament results and ratings will in future be posted direct to the WA website rather than emailed. Chris Hall will continue to post results and ratings to the national email list.
